75 Percent of New Tesla Buyers Are Paying for FSD. The Subscription Bet Is Tracking.

One quarter after Tesla made FSD subscription-only, three in four new North American buyers are paying $99 a month from day one. That is faster than the Adobe and Amazon Prime conversions we benchmarked in September. The one variable that could still break the thesis is churn data Tesla has not released.

What was checked, and what could not be.

Primary source: InsideEVs, published October 21, 2026. All Q3 2026 figures (75% attach rate, 55% Q2 comparison, 1.74M total global subscribers, 67% YoY growth, 50%+ on subscriptions vs one-time purchases, ~875K monthly subscribers) are attributed to Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla VP of AI Software. InsideEVs does not specify whether the statement came from an earnings call, investor event or press release; flagged as a sourcing gap.

The ~$1.04B annualized FSD subscription revenue figure is our own calculation: 875,000 subscribers x $99/month x 12. Labeled as an estimate in the piece.

Q2 2026 comparison figures (55% attach rate, "nearly 1.5 million" global subscribers, "first time" new subscriptions outpaced one-time purchases) are from Tesla's Q2 2026 earnings call as cited in our September 19, 2026 piece. Not re-verified for this update.

The free trial month detail and Elluswamy quote come from the InsideEVs article directly.

Churn data: not available. Tesla has not disclosed subscriber retention rates. This is explicitly flagged as the key unknown in both the editorial and plain tabs.

The $10 trillion prediction is our own, from the September 19 piece, dated and labeled there as a prediction. Not Tesla's claim.
